Hajer Al-Faham

Hajer Al-Faham is a Ph.D. Candidate and National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, where she studies American and Comparative politics. Hajer’s research agenda focuses on exploring the relationships between politics and group identity, with an emphasis on race, citizenship, migration, and religion. Hajer’s research has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, including Perspectives on Politics and the Annual Review of Law and Social Science. As a doctoral student, Hajer has earned several prestigious awards from organizations like the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the American Political Science Association (APSA). In addition, Hajer was selected for the Emerging Scholars of Color Program, a joint collaboration of the Center for Latino Studies and the Center for Critical Race Studies. Currently, she is completing her dissertation, Contingent Citizenship: Muslims in America, that explores the political integration and citizenship of American Muslims. After completing her doctoral studies, Hajer is eager to conduct civically engaged research while teaching and mentoring the next generation of university students.
